Lenten Stewardship/Alsmgiving - Week 2, Freedom House

Freedom House.png

In Lent, every parish has some kind of regular outreach and almsgiving effort. It is a way to focus on what really matters, what Jesus did for us – give life. At Nativity, we will be highlighting and collecting for various organizations each week. Please watch the “Discipleship CORE” section of the bulletin for the week’s organization and needs and please – give generously!

Week Two Need - Freedom House

Needs: Laundry detergent, dryer sheets, aluminum foil, Ziploc bags

Freedom House is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization started by a handful of concerned Christian individuals in 1992.  For 26 years, Matthew 25:35 has provided the foundation for our work:

…For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a  stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me.  Matthew 25:35

Many circumstances can lead to homelessness.  An unexpected medical bill or car repair are the two most common reasons for homeless families to seek shelter at Freedom House. At our location on the east side of Green Bay, Freedom House offers emergency shelter, food, basic hygiene items and the support and comprehensive programming to help families get back out on their own.  Each family leaves with an individualized budget and the skills and knowledge they need to be on their own.  Freedom House families are also offered our Aftercare Program for general support and access to the many donations Freedom House receives.  This takes some stress of their monthly budget and prevents a second shelter stay.
